The target group for this study is all applicants who are interested in acquiring a solid basic competence in English, for use in teaching or other areas that require a good understanding of the language.
If you are looking for an exchange semester abroad it is possible to do half of the one year programme and join the courses in the autumn or spring term.

Linguistics 1: English Grammar
A general description of the English language and the connection between the grammar form and meaning. Comparison to Norwegian grammar will be focused to make you aware of the differences.
Literature from English speaking countries, part 1
This module aim to teach you how to analyse literature and to write about literature in an academic way.
This topic focuses of history and culture of English speaking countries.
Spring
Literature from English speaking countries, part 2
This module aim to teach you how to analyse literature and to write about literature in an academic way.
Linguistics 2: English Phonetics
Intonation is the study of the melody of English, its rhythm and strong and weak forms. It is important that you are able to diagnose and correct mistakes Norwegian pupils normally commit. Transcription of sentences and intonation patterns will be studied.
This topic focuses of history and culture of English speaking countries.
The teaching is organized in the form of lectures and group work. Learning to communicate in English is one of the main aims of the study. Extensive reading of the books on the curriculum will be required.
A two-week excursion to The Norwegian Study Centre in York in the autumn term is part of the course.
